Propel eBook, Audio Bundle and Workbook - Harnessing and sustaining the power of momentum

One thing you know for sure is that change is constant, especially in the business world. Everyone is now working 24/7, and globalization means that you’re rarely off duty. And the new normal is being agile, adaptive and flexible. Its about building momentum in a changing business atmosphere…

But when you’re experiencing near-constant change, how do you keep yourself, your team and your project on course? How do you not lose momentum?

Here are 6 tips from management experts to help keep the momentum going no matter what is happening in your world.

1. Get Clarity

Everyone in your business environment must know what is behind the change you’re all experiencing. It’s your job to interpret and communicate the benefits of the change to your team and stakeholder.

Clarity and open communication are key to keeping your momentum going.

2. Communicate the Narrative

Human beings are hardwired to understand stories. A clear narrative of where you’re going and why will help your team to understand the common goals and what they’re expected to contribute to the process.

3. Give Them A Road Map

Part of the narrative is giving your stakeholders a road map of how you’re going to make the journey. People often resist and fear change. You can help them engage by giving them the information they need to feel comfortable.

This is a good opportunity to include your team in planning the journey. Encourage their input.

4. Plan for Resistance

All change will prompt some pushback. If you anticipate likely resistance or inertia, you can plan how to deal with that. Acknowledge people’s fears and help them to process their feelings.

Make sure you have strategies to keep your team supported and the momentum going.

5. Celebrate Successes

One of the most powerful ways to keep building momentum is to celebrate the progress you’re making. Whenever your team hits a milestone make sure you acknowledge their success and celebrate it!

And make that celebration tangible. If your team has been pulling late hours or weekends take them out for dinner or lunch. Send an email around the office congratulating them on their achievement.

Make Time for You

Maybe the most important thing is to take good care of yourself. If you get stressed out or overtired, you will be no good for the team. Set a good example by taking a lunch break, going home at a reasonable hour and staying fit and well.

Make sure you get the support you need to stay on top of your job and keep the momentum going. Its about building momentum in a changing business atmosphere…
